Eighth graders will build on acquired knowledge and skills that students have developed through grades six and seven. It also will attempt to seek to introduce, expand and broaden the understanding of geography and key United States historical concepts. An identification and a basic introduction of American Civics, the Constitution and the Electoral College process will be developed with a general overview the Beginnings of United States History to 1817, which may include Geography, the first Americans, Colonization, Colonial Life, Development of Democratic Ideas, Declaration of Independence, the Revolution, Confederation of States, Federal Union and the Constitution. This course will also emphasize writing, reading and special projects.
